to your frequently asked questions

WHAT IS PRINT READY ARTWORK?
When we ask you to supply artwork ready for print we prefer you to send a “press quality” PDF which is a high resolution file. If you create your artwork in Adobe InDesign or Illustrator you will have the option when you export your files to PDF to save them this way. You will also be asked to include marks and bleed, which means we can trim your artwork after it is printed, with no loss of quality to the finished leaflet, card or book.
When we ask you to supply artwork which is suitable for printing on promotional products, this advice might vary depending on the decoration method.
We can accept editable formats including AI files and EPS files.

WHAT IS BLEED?
Bleed is the area outside the visible area of your printed artwork which will be trimmed off as part of the finishing process. In Adobe InDesign or Illustrator you can choose the setting of the amount of bleed, which will be applied to the whole document. For printed sheets this is usually 3mm and you include the bleed from the document when you export it for print ready artwork (see above).

CAN YOU EDIT MY ARTWORK?
If you are uncertain whether your artwork is suitable for printing, or if you have not included bleed or crop marks, it may be possible for us to edit the PDF you have supplied. Depending on how the original artwork was created, e.g. in InDesign or Illustrator, we may ask you to package the document and send us the original artwork to make edits for you.
All artwork is returned to you for your approval before we print anything.

CAN YOU EDIT OR USE FILES FROM CANVA OR WORD DOCUMENTS?
In general the answer to this question is no, but we can re-create artwork for you from Powerpoint or Word or online software like Canva. However, these programmes are not intended for creating print ready artwork and can create font conflicts and issues with embedded image resolution.

CAN YOU TAKE MY LOGO FROM OUR WEBSITE?
No. Image files that are used on websites are generally low resolution and not suitable for printing. Logo files should be supplied as PDF, AI, EPS files in CMYK format or with spot colours identified (if applicable).

CAN YOU CREATE ARTWORK FOR ME?
Yes, we can. This is a chargeable service but we are able to offer design, illustration and layouts for printed artwork. We are not a design agency and we don't get involved in corporate branding but we can create your print ready artwork from the assets you supply. The cost and scope of this can vary from a simple re-draw of your low res logo to a full design for a banner graphic, for example.
In all cases please call and discuss your project with us if you are unsure or what kind of artwork we will require.

ARE YOUR PAPERS ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY?
Yes. There is a growing awareness that the forests which produce timber and wood fibre need careful management if they are to continue to meet the increasing demands placed upon them.
This is where chain of custody certification through schemes such as FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) comes in and we only use papers from suppliers who have this level of certification.

CAN YOU PRINT ON PAPER THAT I SUPPLY TO YOU?
Sorry, no. We prefer to know the origin of the paper for everything we print. We also use paper and board that is recognised as suitable for use with our printing equipment. If we were to use a product that was not profiled for our machines we could have production issues and disappointing results.
You can be assured that all of our paper and board comes from FSC certified sources (see Q above) and will produce the best printed result.

WHAT IS YOUR MINIMUM ORDER QUANTITY?
The beauty of digital print is that there is essentially no such thing as a minimum order quantity. You can have just one print if that is all you need, for example if you want to proof a job. However, we are commercial printers and we do have a minimum order value of £20.
We are not open to the public and we are not able to offer copying or scanning services for single documents.

WHAT IS YOUR LEAD-TIME?
Lead-times for small format printing vary according to the size of your order and our current production timetables. In general we look to turnaround your order for flat sheet work in 48 hours. If finishing, beyond guillotining, is required then the lead-time will be longer, depending on what is required.
Lead-times for large format prints are also 48 hours from receipt of approved artwork.
Lead-times on promotional products vary from 5 working days to many weeks, depending on the product, volume and level / type of personalisation.
For bespoke projects, including die-cut designs, box making and fulfilment the lead-time will be discussed with you at the quotation stage.
We always want to help you to achieve the best results in your given time frame but, generally the more time you have, the more creative we can be.

HAVE YOU GOT A PRICE LIST?
No, pretty much everything we produce is made to order, although some standard print items like business cards, letterheads, postcards and flyers are easy to give you a price for on the spot. We prefer to issue a formal quotation for all work to lessen the chance for any miscommunication concerning the brief and we always aim to have any quotation for print back to you within 24 hours.

CAN YOU SHIP OVERSEAS?
Yes, we can. We use DHL for domestic and international freight as we find them to be competitive and reliable. We also have access to expert freight forwarders for shipping dangerous goods (usually promo items with lithium batteries, for example) and knowledge of some goods which may be prohibited in certain territories.
